sept 21 2005 - equinox

with it –
the where-with-all, the ne'er-do-well, and the ketchup king are swearing their allegiance to the queen of anything -
the bold knights go forth -

too soon, too late, the milk truck and the bread truck and the meat truck's been retired -
there are postage stamps on postcards they are stealing for the sake of something i don't know -

now everything's in plastic, and the kitchen knives are sharp enough to cut the garlic thin enough to make the perfect sauce -
don't pretend you didn't care -

for you, anything, just like the queen -
there's a golden chalice in the cupboard if that is what you're looking for, then take it for heaven's sake -

don't blame me if the smoke alarm goes off again -
it's not my job to check and see if your toast is ready or is burning up again -
chee!

oh, i think it used to be fun, but i don't know if that's just the way that i remember it? -
maybe it was really fucking crappie, actually -
you know, when i look at the old pictures, it makes my chest ache with missing it, but it's really all about that feeling, isn't it? -

guy! -
where did she go to for so long? -
i don't really actually remember that she was really gone that long -
i guess i was stewing in my own shit too long to really notice it - and i didn't have no money for checking up on her, you know? -

now when i go out on a tear like that, i feel like some kind of criminal in the morning, you know? -
like some kind of moral failure -
and well, i used to celebrate that kind of failure you know? -
cause we all knew that was so full of shit in any case -
so what the fuck happened, anyway? -
how'd we get so square? -
did they beat us after all?

just keep on skipping rope -
it'll all come back to you in no time -
like riding bombs with cowboy hats, yeeha -

then the Mystery gave up and went to sleep -
he shouldn't drink so much on weekdays -
what's he think this is, 20 years ago or something, chee -
everybody changes, don't they? -
yeah, but where are the ones that were supposed to take our place, you know what i mean? -
oh they're out there -
what you think their gonna come looking for you? -
they got their own thing going on -
they don't need your place, they got their own place -
know what i'm saying?

glasses, the windows on your soul's view taking a break from magnifying cause there ain't that much that worth the effort of your squinting at -
until there is -
and then you watch 'em go like always -
still the champs, i think, i say -

call the Brigade, they're ready now to go and get it -
just watch em now -
still room for some surprises, yo!
